Many thanks to Lori Elliott for showing us many things throughout the years. This happens to be my favorite Halloween video, that can be shown in class! I get a big chuckle when Jerry describes his Halloween costume in the box, only because I lived through the boxed Halloween costumes as well! Hope you enjoy this as much as I have the past two Halloweens!

The Kids' Science Challenge... Play Games and Develop Projects
The Kids' Science Challenge is a national (United States) contest for students in grades three through six. The challenge asks students to innovate and build upon on our current conceptions of how things work. There are three areas of innovation in this year's contest; reducing waste, developing meals to be eaten on Mars, and developing a toy or game that demonstrates an animal's intelligence. The contest is open until February 29, 2012.
Applications for Education
To help students start thinking about the topics in The Kids' Science Challenge, the challenge website has a series of games and videos for students. For teachers, The Kids' Science Challenge offers a page of lesson plans and hands-on activities designed to help students develop ideas related to the contest's three challenge topics.
National Geographic Halloween Quizzes and Games
National Geographic Kids is currently offering some games, quizzes, and offline activity suggestions for Halloween-themed fun. All of the activities are designed for elementary school students. In the quiz section you will find a quiz about Halloween and a quiz about Edgar Allan Poe. The games section offers a Mad Libs like game about Halloween and a "spooky" e-card game. The activities category offers ideas to students and parents for pumpkin carving designs as well as costume designs.
The Animated Version of Poe's A Tell Tale Heart
Today marks the 161st anniversary of Edgar Allan Poe's death. To mark the day, Open Culture posted an animated version of Poe's classic. If you check out Google Books, you can get a free downloadable copy of the story as well. Also through Google Books is a free download of The Pit and the Pendulum in a graphic novel version. Poe was also one of my favorite authors and during the Fall Season and Halloween, it is always good to go back to Poe for some suspense! Enjoy!!
